Why you can't get Muse or Dots in Europe.
You can't get Meta's Muse in Europe, and on ChatGPT Pro you don't get Dots either, so we looked into why and where your data ends up.

Meta launched Muse on September 8. Three weeks later OpenAI launched Dots, and both are AI agents that do the work on a computer of their own. Muse isn't in Europe at all yet. And if you pay for ChatGPT Pro here, you still don't get Dots.
Can you get them in Europe
Meta brought Muse to Canada ten days after the US, but it hasn't said when Europe comes. With Dots, your plan decides. OpenAI says Business Premium and Enterprise are rolling out worldwide, Europe included, but bit by bit. xAI put out Grok Bot before both of them, on August 11, and you can use it here now. You can get the iPhone app in Sweden, Germany, and France, and the docs don't limit the app to any country at all. But you can't tag Grok Bot on X yet if your X account is in the EU, the UK, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Australia.
Why don’t they launch in Europe
OpenAI and Meta haven't said why, and they haven't said when either. People who write about this point at four EU laws. They run from the General Data Protection Regulation to the AI Act and the Digital Markets Act. And you can see why. Think about an AI colleague that reads your email and calendar all day. That's personal data, the whole time. But neither company has said that's the reason, so the laws are still a guess.
Apple has said more, but the Commission doesn't see it the same way. Apple says the Digital Markets Act keeps Siri AI off the iPhone in the EU. It says it offered to roll it out over 18 months. The Commission said no. According to AP, as published by The Star, the Commission says that call is Apple's alone.
Where does your data go
Not to China, if you use ChatGPT or Muse. OpenAI and Meta are American companies, so your data answers to US law. China comes up because of Manus, the company behind Cue. Manus started in China. Then it moved to Singapore. And if you're on Enterprise or Edu, OpenAI keeps your ChatGPT data on servers in Europe.
Where the server is and whose law applies to it aren't the same thing, though. In 2018 the US passed the Clarifying Lawful Overseas Use of Data Act. Under it, American authorities can make an American company hand over the data it stores. And Frankfurt too.
Who's writing this
That's us, Mellovy. We're a small team in Sweden, and we're building an organisation of AI colleagues that work alongside you. Europe is our first market, but we haven't launched yet. And we won't pretend we're waiting for Muse and Dots. We hope they take their time getting here, so Europe gets to meet us first.
